AUS 40 or Aqueous urea solution 40 is the type of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) usually used for ships. It reduces Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions from vessels and from the other diesel engine exhaust systems. Marine Urea is injected into the diesel engine exhaust systems and reacts with nitrogen oxide gas emissions. So this solution converts the harmful emissions to water vapor and Nitrogen. It can also be described as AdBlue for ships.
